Connectivity that supports business and growth

Fast, dependable internet is now core infrastructure, on par with roads, water, and power. The Office of Economic Development works with providers and senior levels of government to keep service expanding across the Town as we grow toward roughly 83,500 residents by 2051.

Carrier choice

National and regional providers, including Bell, Rogers, and Vianet, serve homes and businesses across BWG, with fixed wireless and satellite filling in areas beyond the fibre footprint.

Network expansion across the Town

Several programs and providers have extended high-speed service in and around BWG over the past few years. Here is where the main initiatives stand.

In progress

Ontario Connects and AHSIP

Through the Accelerated High-Speed Internet Program, the Province has signed agreements with eight providers to connect up to 266,000 homes, farms, and businesses in as many as 339 municipalities. With more than 94% of Ontario now covered, the Province has set a revised goal of universal access by the end of 2028.

Complete

SWIFT 1.0 in Simcoe County

In December 2024, SWIFT confirmed completion of its Simcoe County fibre projects, about $41 million of work that connected more than 12,590 homes and businesses. Vianet's portion laid roughly 75 kilometres of fibre across New Tecumseth, Bradford West Gwillimbury, and Adjala-Tosorontio, reaching more than 1,200 rural premises.

In service

Holland Marsh wireless (CENGN and Rogers)

A partnership between CENGN and Rogers brought a 5G fixed-wireless network to the Holland Marsh, shared with neighbouring King Township. It added 25/5 and 50/10 Mbps service to farms and homes that previously had little or no access. Rural properties can check what is available using the tools below.

Substantially complete

Bell fibre in Bradford and Bondhead

Bell reports that its fibre-to-the-home build in Bradford, including Bondhead, has reached substantial completion, extending fibre to roughly 13,000 homes and businesses. Bell continues to add fibre to new developments, while broader expansion into outlying areas is reviewed over time.

Options today

Fixed wireless and satellite

Some rural properties sit outside current fibre build areas. Fixed wireless from regional providers and satellite services, including Starlink, can deliver high-speed access today. (In March 2025 the Province ended its Starlink satellite program, but satellite remains available privately.)

Ongoing

Working with providers

The Office of Economic Development continues to meet with internet service providers and senior levels of government to close gaps, support new applications for funding, and advocate for residents and businesses still waiting for service.
